Through the provision of significant financial support and the promotion of creative, multidisciplinary scholarship, the award empowers students to investigate studies that tackle societal issues, thereby establishing a connection between the public interest and academia.
UBC Public Scholars Awards is open for Students intending to enroll for Post graduate and PhD Program. All countries are eligible for this Scholarship.

UBC Public Scholars Award is Sponsored by the UBC Public Scholars Initiative (PSI) which encourages the intensity of research and practical applications.
The UBC Public Scholars Awards offers up to $10,000 per year for two years, totaling up to $20,000. Through funding for professional development, travel, and research-related costs, students can pursue creative and cooperative projects that may not be feasible with their current funding. Students may also apply for the Health Equity Stream, which offers focused funding for studies that address health concerns and promote equity in healthcare systems.

Eligibility Criteria
In order to qualify for the UBC Public Scholars Award, candidates need to fulfill the following requirements:
- Enrollment: Must be a student enrolled in a UBC PhD program.
- Nationality: The UBC Public Scholars Awards is Available to International students, permanent residents, and citizens of Canada.
- Research Focus: Candidates must show how their doctoral work relates to public concerns or the general welfare.
- Collaborative Work: Applicants must be open to conducting collaborative, multidisciplinary research.

- Renewal: Depending on their continued eligibility and advancement, scholars may be eligible for renewal funding for a second year.
Application Procedures
To apply for the UBC Public Scholars Award, follow these steps:
- Complete Online Application: Submit the application through the UBC Graduate Studies portal.
- Research Description: Give a thorough explanation of your doctoral work and its possible implications for the general public.
- Health Equity Stream (Optional): If you are applying for the Health Equity Stream, make sure to include a section in your application outlining your dedication to health equity.
- Attend Information Session: To gain a better understanding of the award and application process, sign up for the general information session scheduled for March 24, 2025, from 12:00 to 1:00 pm.
- Send in Necessary Documents: Make sure you send in all necessary paperwork by the due date.
- Application Deadline: By May 16, 2025, submit your application.Notification of Results: In late July or early August, the results will be made public.
