The Canada ASEAN Scholarships and Educational Exchanges for Development program, announced by the Government of Canada on August 6, 2017, aims to provide opportunities for students from ASEAN member states to conduct short-term study or research in Canadian post-secondary institutions.The program is established to enable the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, reduce poverty in ASEAN countries, and foster people-to-people ties between Canada and the Indo-Pacific region.
Scholarship Overview
The Canada ASEAN Scholarships Educational Exchanges for Development Program, SEED program is a short-term exchange scheme geared towards facilitating institutional collaborations and student exchange agreements between Canadian post-secondary institutions and their counterparts in ASEAN countries.
The Canada ASEAN Scholarships and Educational Exchanges for Development Program supports the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by encouraging students to participate in areas that contribute positively to sustainable development.
The Canada ASEAN Scholarships and Educational Exchanges for Development Program(SEED ) are presented by Global Affairs Canada and are open to students from Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.
Eligibility Criteria
For candidates to be regarded eligible for the SEED scholarship, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Be citizens of an ASEAN member state: Applicants must be active members and citizens of ASEAN.
- Be enrolled full-time at a post-secondary institution in an ASEAN member state: Applicants must be enrolled full time as students.
- Pay tuition fees to their home institution at the time of application and for the full duration of their exchange.
Candidates are not eligible if they:
- Hold or have a pending application for Canadian citizenship or permanent residency.
- If they are already participating in a scholarship program funded by the Government of Canada.
- If they are already enrolled in a degree, diploma, or certificate program at a Canadian post-secondary institution.
- Have previously received a scholarship under the SEED program.
Canadian post-secondary institutions interested in hosting students must:
- Be a Designated Learning Institution (DLI).
- Have a valid student exchange agreement with the student’s home institution that waives tuition fees for scholarship recipients.
- All applications done through their international office.
Application Procedures
To apply properly, Students should follow the following steps :
- Canadian institutions must apply online on behalf of eligible candidates.
- Institutions in ASEAN member states should promote the program to their students and explore student exchange agreements with Canadian institutions.
- Students aspiring to enroll for short term studies or research in Canada should review the eligibility criteria and contact their institution’s international office for application details.
- Canadian institutions must submit applications by March 31, 2025, 11:59 p.m. EDT. Only applications for Fall 2025 will be accepted.
