What You’ll Be Doing

This is a comprehensive role that goes far beyond basic labor. You will oversee the care of the livestock and the high-tech automated systems that keep the farm running smoothly.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Animal Care & Health: Feed, tend, and handle poultry; monitor flock health; and detect diseases or health problems.

  • System Operations: Set and monitor automated water lines, air flow, and temperature in the barns. Operate automated manure handling, egg gathering, and feed systems.

  • Records & Reporting: Maintain livestock performance records, quality control, and production logs. Write daily basic progress reports and track feed inventory.

  • Biosecurity & Safety: Assist in developing and strictly enforcing farm safety and biosecurity procedures.

  • General Farm Maintenance: Operate tractors, loaders, and tillage equipment; clean barns, pens, and stables; and perform general maintenance.

The Work Environment:

The job is physically demanding and operates in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines. You should be prepared to work in a variety of conditions, including outdoors in all weather, high-dust environments, noisy barns, confined spaces, and at heights.

Vandalia Farms requires a skilled and reliable professional who can hit the ground running.

  • Education: Secondary (high) school graduation certificate.

  • Experience: 5 years or more in poultry/livestock farming.

  • Language: English.

  • Physical Capabilities: Physically demanding work requiring heavy lifting, bending, crouching, kneeling, and standing for extended periods.

  • Key Skills: Strong organization, excellent communication (written and oral), strong judgment, and reliability.

  • Requirements: Must have your own transportation (no public transit available to this rural site), steel-toed safety boots, and gloves. A criminal record check, medical exam, and credit check will be required.

  • Relocation: You must be willing to relocate to the area (relocation costs are not covered by the employer).
