If you hold a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License and want a stable, local driving job where you are home every single day, Premier Warehousing Services, Inc. is hiring CDL-A Shuttle Drivers for its plant and yard operation in the Shoals/West Baden Springs, Indiana area right now.

No overnight runs. No long-haul routes. No sleeping in a truck cab away from your family. This is a local industrial shuttle position with weekly pay, a consistent schedule, and a full benefits package — the kind of driving job that gives you a career without costing you your life outside of work.

The Job: What You Will Actually Be Doing

This is a precision local operation, not an over-the-road position. Your entire workday takes place within a tight industrial circuit — shuttling flatbed and van trailers between the plant facility and an offsite drop yard located approximately half a mile away.

That short distance is deceptive. The value of this role is not in covering miles — it is in executing high-frequency, high-precision trailer movements in a busy industrial environment where backing accuracy, spatial awareness, and consistent reliability matter more than anything else.

Your core daily responsibilities include:

Trailer Shuttling: You will move both empty and loaded flatbed and van trailers between the plant and the yard using trucks equipped with hydraulic and lifting fifth wheels. The hydraulic fifth wheel system is specifically designed to make coupling and decoupling faster and physically less demanding than manual fifth wheel operation — a meaningful advantage in a shift where you may be moving trailers repeatedly throughout your hours.

Plant Backing: You will back trailers into the plant for loading and unloading. This requires genuine precision. Plant environments with active dock doors, other equipment, and pedestrian traffic demand a driver who can place a trailer cleanly and confidently, not someone still developing their backing fundamentals.

Tarping Assistance: You will assist in the tarping and securement process for loaded flatbed trailers before they are pulled for delivery. This is physical work — expect bending, lifting, and working at height on trailer loads. Candidates who are not comfortable with tarping duties should be upfront about that during the hiring process.

Safety and Compliance: You will maintain a clean driving record and operate safely within a high-traffic industrial yard environment at all times.

Pay, Schedule, and Benefits

Starting Pay: $22.00 per hour standard rate, with a $22.50 per hour third shift differential for drivers on the overnight/late shift.

Pay Frequency: Weekly pay every Friday via direct deposit. No waiting two weeks to see your earnings — your paycheck hits every seven days.

Schedule: Sunday through Friday, with overtime occasionally required to meet operational needs. This is a six-day work week structure, so candidates who need a traditional Monday–Friday schedule should factor that in.

Home Time: Home every day. This is a non-negotiable feature of the position. There are no overnight routes, no regional runs, and no extended time away from home. You work your shift and you go home.

Benefits: A full benefits package is offered after 90 days of employment. Specific plan details — including health insurance coverage, dental, vision, and any retirement contributions — should be confirmed directly with Premier Warehousing during the interview process.

Who This Job Is Built For

This position is genuinely well-suited for a specific type of CDL-A driver — and genuinely not right for others. Be honest with yourself about which category you fall into before applying.

This is the right fit if you:

  • Hold a valid Class A CDL and have real-world backing experience in tight spaces
  • Want to stay local and be home daily without sacrificing a professional driving career
  • Are physically capable of and willing to assist with tarping and load securement
  • Value schedule consistency and weekly pay over the higher per-mile earnings of over-the-road work
  • Are reliable and can commit to a Sunday–Friday schedule including occasional overtime

This is not the right fit if you:

  • Are still developing your trailer backing skills and cannot yet confidently place trailers in tight industrial dock situations
  • Prefer long-haul or regional driving where income scales with miles
  • Are not able or willing to perform physical tarping duties
  • Need a Monday–Friday, five-day schedule

Why Local Industrial Shuttle Work Is Underrated

CDL-A drivers often chase over-the-road positions for the mileage pay and the perception that more miles equals more money. In practice, OTR driving comes with hidden costs — time away from home, irregular sleep, meals on the road, wear on your body, and a lifestyle that is difficult to sustain long-term.

Local shuttle and plant operations like this one offer something OTR cannot: predictability. Same route, same environment, same schedule, same paycheck every Friday. For drivers building a family, managing a mortgage, or simply unwilling to sacrifice their personal life for their career, a well-run local industrial operation is often the smarter long-term choice.

Premier Warehousing’s use of hydraulic fifth wheel equipment also signals that this is an operation that has invested in making the shuttle function efficient. A driver doing high-frequency trailer moves in an eight or ten-hour shift benefits significantly from equipment that reduces the physical strain of each coupling cycle.
